Things that cannot land lightly

This project explores tattoos as a medium for preserving memory. Through research on tattoo culture, pain perception, and interviews with young tattoo owners, I found that many people use their bodies as long-lasting archives for emotions and experiences. Based on this insight, I created the brand identity for a fictional “Tattoo Memory Institute,” where memories are implanted through tattoo-inspired procedures. The visual system includes brochures, patient files, labels, pill packaging, and institutional graphics. By blending medical aesthetics with emotional meaning, the project imagines a speculative world where memories can be clinically preserved yet remain deeply personal.

This piece employs a fabric installation to convey a state that ‘appears controlled yet threatens to collapse at any moment’. Fabric fragments are pieced together to trace the trajectories of figure skating glides and jumps, forming a coherent route despite their fragmented nature. Red thread, like taut nerves, binds the fabric while simultaneously destabilising the structure, conveying the sustained tension and precarious balance inherent in performance. This work explores the visual innovation that may emerge from the space between order and chaos.
