Piece of Cake

Piece of Cake is a conceptual brief imagining a partnership between L'Oréal Paris and the V&A. Following a personal audit of four V&A collections, this book spotlights 24 women of color artists currently held in the museum's collection across Photography, Printmaking, and Design. Many are rarely or never displayed publicly. The book sits inside a cake box designed for eight slices. Only one is present. The empty spaces represent the artists who exist in the V&A's archives but remain invisible to visitors. A complete collection, like a complete cake, needs all its slices. Personal anecdotes throughout offer reflections from the designer's perspective as a Southeast Asian woman of color navigating these representation gaps firsthand. Because including female artists of color should be as easy as a piece of cake.
